Introduction to UC Installation
What is Universal Connector?
The Universal Connector establishes and maintains the integration between a system in the organization’s infrastructure and the ObserveID platform. It is installed and running on the customer’s premises and acts as middleware, via which the communication is maintained across the connected systems.
In most cases, except specific implementations, the Universal Connector is stateless. Being requested from the customer’s systems, also referred to as Targets, raw data transits directly to ObserveID.
Purpose and audience
This document provides base guidance on what is recommended to be aware of before you start the installation of the Universal Connector, how to install and\or update the UC, and what is required to do to configure the server and help the UC’s connectivity with your target systems.
This Installation Guide is intended for the administrators overseeing the corporate infrastructure and responsible for software installation.
ObserveID setup checklist
The ObserveID setup checklist shows the full list of activities needed to enable the integration of your target systems with ObserveID. The installation of the UC is a part of the checklist, and vitally important for the communication between the systems. However, it is not enough to make all happen on its own. Use the ObserveID setup checklist below to tie the dots and have a complete view on what else, in addition to the installation, is required to do to make the systems work together:
- Jot down a full list of targets that ObserveID is expected to manage access to.
- Identify the Integration Type for each system on the list as any of the following: AWS, GCP, Azure, Windows, Linux, LDAP, Oracle DB, etc.
- Install the UC.
- Configure ObserveID to communicate with the UC.
- Make connectivity preparations on each target.
- Set up ObserveID with the connection parameters to each target.
- Test the connection to each target, and run the integration data import.
